Gardening with Students
Garden Club will be at 8am in the Shelton Garden on Tuesdays from April 5th to May 10th. Garden Club will be a drop in club, similar to Kindness Club. There is no need to register or RSVP. Caregivers are welcome to stay and help. There is no cost/registration to join Garden Club this Spring.
In order to make the Garden Club free and available to all students we will be holding a fundraiser that directly supports the Garden Club. We are selling engraved bricks, to be installed in the beautiful brick patio/walkway at the entrance of the Shelton School & Community Garden. The bricks are a wonderful and lasting way to celebrate a special student who is continuing on to middle school, acknowledge a great teacher, or show your family's support for our school. Bricks will be engraved with the personal message of your choice.
We are requesting a minimum $50 donation, but we invite you to consider giving more if you can. CLICK HERE to make your online brick order. Order by March 31st, 2022 to make sure your brick is installed during the 2022 gardening season. Contact SheltonSchoolCommunityGarden@gmail.com to order and pay using cash or check made out to Denver Urban Gardens with Shelton Elementary Garden in the memo.

Community Gardening
Please email us at SheltonSchoolCommunityGarden@gmail.com to report any garden concerns or inquire about a plot. The Garden Leadership Team starts assigning plots to interested community members in February/March. There are typically plots available to new gardeners each season. Email us to learn more about plot fees and other community gardener expectations. Our Garden Kickoff Meeting is typically in April. All plots must be planted by June 1st and cleaned up by November 1st, according to DUG's guidance.
Denver Urban Gardens is rooted in a respect for the strength of diverse cultures and the unique talents they bring to horticulture. Its many community gardeners follow the principles of organic gardening, utilizing the age old techniques that provide optimum conditions for the growth of healthy soil, plants and people.
Organic gardening is a holistic approach that emphasizes the importance of the soil environment in producing high quality crops, ornamentals, turf, trees and shrubs, grown without the input of synthetic chemicals, pesticides or fertilizers. Rather than focusing upon specific products or remedies, the philosophy is grounded in a respect for biodiversity and preventative styles of management. Included in this systems approach is an understanding of renewable resources like composting, water conservation, planting crop varieties to suit the climate and season, crop rotation, cover crops, integrated pest management (including attracting beneficial insects) and the wise use of organic fertilizers.
