Shelton Earns B+!!

Picture
Shelton received a B+ on the ColoradoSchoolGrades.com website.   This website was created by a coalition and the Center for Education Policy Analysis at the University of Colorado Denver's School of Public Affairs to determine the grade breakdown.  The state Department of Education ranking system labels 60 percent of public schools in the top category of "performance," according to Colorado School Grades.

Under the coalition's grading system, most schools are given a letter C for average, allowing the top performers to be highlighted.  The coalition grades on a curve, allowing only schools with the top 10 percent of scores — based on the state's calculation — to receive an A.  The state calculations of school rankings take academic growth into high consideration, letting it account for 75 percent of the final score in elementary and middle schools, and 50 percent in high school grades.

Let's keep all the great things happening here at our neighborhood School!  Lots of these things - our after school enrichment opportunities, diversity, welcoming atmosphere,  and our beautiful surroundings that encourage our kids to stay healthy -- do not factor into this letter grade.  If they did, we'd be an A for sure!!!

International Night is February 21!

Picture
Did you know Shelton has students from all over the world?  We are holding our first annual International Night on February 21 beginning at 6:00 pm.  We are seeking families with culture to share (traditions, flags, food, costumes, and the like) including the United States!  This could include flags, food to sample, costumes, or anything else that you think might be interesting to our community. We are seeking to learn about traditions from near AND far, including Colorado, and different regions of the United States.  To learn more or volunteer, contact Ann Kelly (aakelly@jeffco.k12.co.us) or Lisa Baird   lisa_baird@yahoo.com)

Please sign up to host a culture table using the helper signup link.  We all have something to share, but if you prefer, there are also volunteer opportunities for setup and cleanup.  Shelton's PTSA can help defray expenses for those who participate by reimbursing expenses (with receipts) up to $25 per table. To learn more or volunteer, contact Ann Kelly (aakelly@jeffco.k12.co.us) or Lisa Baird (lisa_baird@yahoo.com)
